Medical Mission Financial AidThe finances required to serve others via medical care in an African country can be a burden. There are two primary expenses: flight costs & volunteer fees.
To help those who need financial assistance, we have located foundations that help cover costs of medical missions. Each option is a little different and will require your time an attention. Although some of the options donate directly to GMAD for your volunteer fee, which requires some coordination, all of these options are done independent of GMAD on your own initiative. |

Crowdfund for your own trip.

Many past medical volunteers have had a lot of success printing out their own fundraising flyer and asking their work colleagues for support. Sending out a social media post or asking in person are also effective ways of raising funds for your trip.
Using your hard earned medical skills to serve folks in Africa is a really cool thing, your communities generosity may surprise you! To be clear, this is money you can fundraise for yourself. Folks should know it's not going directly to GMAD (a 501(c)3 charity), their donation is going to you and your trip expenses. Here is a flyer you can use or it can serve as a sample. |

Foundations that give grants to medical volunteers:
DAISY Medical Mission Grants
- The DAISY Foundation is offering grants to DAISY Honorees who require funding for their expenses to volunteer on medical missions
- Must be registered with The DAISY Foundation
- The Daisy Foundation will pay direct costs to participate in a medical mission, not to exceed the grant amount of $1,500.00

Physician Associate Foundation Global Outreach Grants Program
- The PA Foundation provides grants to support projects involving PAs and PA students in humanitarian activities designed to improve the quality of life in underserved areas outside the United States or its territories
- Applications accepted once a year as cycle begins in January/February and closes one month later

Making a Difference Foundation Individual Provider Grant
- Individual Provider Grants are designed to support medical providers to give back to communities through medical mission trips
- All grant funds will be paid directly to a charitable nonprofit organization to help cover some of the program costs associated with the medical mission trip and the provider requesting the grant must express that the cost of the mission is prohibiting them from participating in a medical mission.
- Grant amounts may vary but will not be in excess of $2,000
- All applications are reviewed, vetted, and are approved monthly
- Funds are awarded no sooner than 90 days in advance of the departure date

SMH Global and Rural Health Foundation
- The SHM Global and Rural Health Foundation offers small travel and equipment grants to hospital-based clinicians and practice administrators involved in local and global missions
- Award involves travel grants of up to $2000 per person for travel
- Applications are accepted once a year in late January/early February

Doximity Foundation
- Doximity Foundation provides grants of up to $2,400 for domestic and international global health trip airfare
- To qualify one must be a verified physician or advanced practice provider (NP, CRNA or PA) on Doximity to be eligible
